The Book List

#ReadWokeScotland

Check out our list of Read Woke books that cover a range of different themes and issues. We have carefully selected this list to include books that have excellent stories, while also being capable of opening your eyes and enlightening you. Many of the books selected are "Own Voice" books, meaning that diverse characters are written from the perspective of diverse authors. This means that the stories are more genuine and will not harbour harmful stereotypes.

The Criteria

For a book to be included in the Read Woke challenge it must meet the following criteria.

  • Challenge a social norm

  • Give voice to the voiceless

  • Provide information about a group that has been disenfranchised

  • Seek to challenge the status quo
